Roofing Day 4

Fortunately, we got an early start this morning!

Removal of the old roof on the old front of the cabin.

 

Mental preparation, maybe?

More removal.

Anchoring.

Getting the ropes in place.

Underlayment.

"Hmmm it is getting warm!"

We couldn't tell which way the rain was moving.

Apparantly, it was moving toward us!

And it brought sleet and cold temps!

Did you (as did Crissy and I) wonder what type of screws, were used on a metal roof?  After all, it goes through metal and wood, cannot rust or allow leakage!  It has a rubber gasket that seals when screwed in.  Pretty cool, huh?

Roofing - Day 3

So he started the day off right!

Foot elevated, crutches & coffee handy and a watchful eye,

he was being a good consultant from the ground.

Cory attaches the rake trim.

He is up and around.

Bill and Carolyn stopped by.

Mickey (crutches) and Bill (cane)!

Bill looked up at the boys going up on the roof and emphatically said,

"Be careful!"

 

He is getting a little too brave.

Done for the day!

Mickey's foot is quite swollen and turning pretty colors tonight.

What can I do?

Roofing - Day 2

The man on the ground, "Just doing my job!"

Early morning and things are going well!

End of the day and looking good!

Not quite where they wanted to be, but...

A sprained ankle puts Mickey in the recliner!

We have borrowed crutches and will keep him off the roof!

The ladder slipped and he rode it down. 

Is that really what you should do?

Fortunately, he stopped short of the edge, but turned the ankle.

The ladder kept going off the edge, but missed the man on the ground.

Finally - the new roof!

After planning, preparing and hauling here we go!

This is it - on our small trailer - the entire roof!

It must be a mistake!

This is the gutter and the downspouts.

The transition pieces, I think.

Anyway, demolition began Saturday morning.  The not so fun part.  Fortunately, the existing roof was nailed directly to the decking with nothing between, so the nails were loose and easy to remove.

Cory is ready!

Brad is a great instructor with ropes, knots and climbing experience!

With the ropes and anchors in place, it's time for a break.

We really don't want anyone to get dehydrated.

Alone in the mountains!

What would you do with an entire week in the mountains ALONE? Just think about it!
Well, first I can tell you what I didn't do much of: cooking, cleaning, laundry or projects. Well, OK I did make a few decorative changes here and there, but they were very minor projects.

For me, it was a wonderful week of much needed rest and relaxation. For my body: coffee in the hot tub in the mornings and a yoga/pilates DVD has started my day each day. Yes, I did the yoga/pilates! Really, I enjoy it! Eating healthy (lots of eggs , salads and chicken) has helped me feel better, along with lots of much needed sleep! For my spirit: prayer, quiet times, reading and Bible study.

I enjoyed an incredible thunderstorm, complete with lightening, very small hail and approximately an inch of rain in about one hour! The temperature at that time was about 55, which is just a little above the morning temps. And the electricity has not even flickered this week. The sunrises and sunsets have been beautiful and early!

I did take care of Longaberger business, but that is not 'work' to me! And there was some Fox News and a little HGTV. And I did visit with some mountain women (good neighbors) a couple of times. This is something that I really don't make the time to do here or in Amarillo.

Tomorrow is Saturday and I must return to reality. Mickey will be waiting for me after his 4Wheeling trip to Colorado. And I am anxious to see kids and grands again.

I wouldn't want to live here alone, but it certainly is a great refuge. I am rejuvenated and ready for entertaining again! When would you like to come up?
