Now I lay me down to sleep...

We have been here for a week!
It was time to move around a little,
so we made a day trip tp Santa Fe.
It is about a two hour drive from here
and we make a big loop,
driving south to Las Vegas,
west through Glorietta
and into Santa Fe.
Our return trip takes us north
out of Santa Fe (by lots of casinos),
through Espanola,
east by way of Tres Ritos
and north from Mora
enjoying the beautiful mountain terrain
that we love.
While in Santa Fe,
we ate lunch at Cafe Castro,
shopped for a cast iron chimenea
(an impossible find even at Jackalope),
took care of some banking business,
picked up groceries at Sam's
and wine at Trader Joe's.
Back home, groceries unloaded,
we headed to the front deck,
to watch the sun set
and the humming birds feed.

"Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray thee Lord my soul to keep.
Be thou with me through the night
And wake me with the morning light."
                   Amen

Mushrooms, Humming Birds and Tree Removal

I saw this huge mushroom
below the driveway.
It was as big as a Longaberger dinner plate!
Amazing!
Happy Humming Birds!
I know that it looks out of juice,
but really there is still some in there.
Besides, who wants to fight
the little birds to refill it?

Down to the business of more tree removal!
Make the cuts.
Tie it off.
PULL!
TIMBER!

hmmm...
Perfect!

Did I make a promise?

I think that I did!
OK, so here it is.
The August give-a-way.
Yes, you have seen it before,
but it is a little easier to win this time.
Just become a follower
and your name will go in the drawing!
It is scheduled for August 31
and will be done
by my in-house (literally) counter.
Hurry, sign up now
and good luck!

Goodbye Friends!

After eleven movies,
much laughter and fun,
and lots of pages scrapped,
please remember that
"What happens at the cabin stays at the cabin!"
We enjoyed your visit to the mountains!
Please plan to come again!

A Perfectly Chilled Watermelon Snack

Lunch was outside with the humming birds!
The weather and the view
were just beautiful on the deck!
Chicken Caesar Salad made a perfect lunch!

We had a bit of a dilema.
We are short on refrigerator space
and a watermelon needed to be cooled.
What to do?
Chill it in the stream!
Be careful on those rocks!
This snack presents beautifully
on the Longaberger Paprika Platter
The watermelon was nicely chilled,
drizzled with fresh lime juice
and covered with chopped mint
from my mountain herb garden.
It has been a good day!

Water Water Everywhere!

We have never seen
this much water here before!
Water is...
Going into the culvert
above the new driveway...
Rushing out of the culvert
below the new driveway...
Heading down the mountain...
Flowing freely...
Moving on.
We love the sound of the mountain stream!
We were walking today and saw this unusual item.
There are lots of mushrooms on the ground,
but I had never see one on a tree!

Walking in the montains makes me hungry!
Tonight's dinner:
Pear Salad
Portabella Mushroom & Cracked Pepper Pork Loin
Roasted Garlic and Olive Oil Cous Cous
Crescent Rolls
Tres Leches Cake

Retreat Weekend

We're finally back!
It has been far too long
and we have missed the mountains!

We plan to be here for a couple of weeks,
so check back.
We are planning another give-a-way!

After we arrived yesterday,
we sat on the front porch with a glass of wine
and waited for the rain storm.
And this morning...
a beautiful view with temperature of 50!

We prepared for our guests
and here they are!
Becky, Val, Becky, Brandy,
Laurie and Kim.
They are trying to RELAX!

So, Mickey got our campfire started.

And we all moved to the back deck.

Preparing our hot dogs.

Good friends.

Cooking and laughing together.

The perfect marshmallow!
It was cooked in the no burn zone!
Looks like a fun weekend ahead!
