Thanksgiving (not at the cabin)

But, lots of fun, anyway!

The boys made turkeys.
Brock and his cute turkey.
Will and his feathered friend.
Grant and his gobbler.

The guys headed to the airport.
They thought the new paint was "cool"
Cory took the boys up
for a short flight.

Back to work, Will is mowing.
Preparing for the turkey shoot,
Will rounded up the gobblers
and positioned them.
The gun and the glasses.
The Shooter.

Moving to the pasture,
Shooting their great great grandfather Richardson's .22 rifle.
Instructions.
Riding back to the house.

And the girls?
Cooked and cleaned
and shopped a little.
We all enjoyed our time together.

Thanksgiving Thoughts...

"Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name."
Psalm 100:4

There shall be "a day of public Thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God..."
1789 Congressional Proclamation

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday for celebrating faith, family and freedom, is exclusively American and distinctively Christian.

I am thankful for...
  •  my faith
  • my family
  • my freedom to worship
  • my Longaberger business
  • the beauty of the mountains
  • our fun retreat business
Please leave a comment with your Thanksgiving thoughts.

All Things Thanksgiving

First, let me be perfectly clear, we are not in the mountains.  (sigh)  But I miss mountain blogging!  And I fear that if I don't post often you will fire me as your favorite mountain blogger.  :)  Holiday posts are the blog norm now and I don't want to miss out.

Stay tuned for another fun give-a-way soon!

Here is one of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes.  We love to serve this on turkey sandwiches and on the side or as an appetizer.  And we enjoy it through Christmas!

Cranberry Salsa recipe:

1 pkg. of cranberries
1 bunch of green onions
2 jalapenos
1 cup cilantro

Chop above in food processor

Add:
3/4 cup sugar
juice of 1 lime
1 T. olive oil

Serve with Frito Scoops

Easy enough?  Please let me know what you think of it.

brrrr...

It was 18 degrees this morning when we woke up!
Hot tub and hot coffee warmed us up nicely.
I always hate to leave the mountains,
but our work here is done for now.

We decided to take the Ocate Pass
on our return.
It has been a long time
since we travelled this road.
It was enjoyeable.

We went through Wagon Mound,
Roy, Mosquero and Logan.

But at the Canadian River
I had to stop for a photo op.
This little oasis is so unexpected!

Stopping at Russell's Travel Center
on I-40 at exit 369 is an experience.
We watched it being built and waited
for years (really) for the opening!
First and foremost,
the bathrooms are clean
and had fresh flowers in the ladies' room!
Next, there is a Subway.
(We split a $5 footlong when we travel.)
There is a museum, a chapel
and a nice looking restaurant.
The entire place is full of fun things to see
and more travel snacks than you can imagine!
Gas prices were ok.
Who could ask for more?
We approve of this Travel Center.

Is that snow coming?

Yes,
from the West
 and from the North!
However,
all we got were flurries that didn't stick.
It really was moving more toward the North.
There was snow in Sipapu
and that's good, as they plan to open
the ski season in about two weeks!

Our winter chores are completed,
with the hot tub filled and warm,
the heaters all heating,
firewood racks filled,
and flannel sheets on all beds!
Come on up to watch the snow fall
from the warmth of our cozy cabin!

Checkng the list

We arrived with lists.
Mine did not include recuperating,
but that is all I have done today.
Avoiding the details,
a virus was the culprit.
Fortunately, it was short and non violent.
The two hours that I gained on Sunday
are gone along wih several more.

My mountain man has already completed
two of the three items on his list.
Repair the hot tub - check.
Replace a heater - check.
Replace a fan - scheduled for tomorrow.

After his successful day
and my rough night,
an evening by the chimenea
was in order.
Perfect weather for a warm fire!
This is the very last of the fall color.
So peaceful and quiet.
Beautiful blue sky!
Coming inside is easier
when we can bring the fire
or build another!

Double Dipping ?

Last night, in Amarillo 'falling back'
meant an extra hour!
Fabulous!
Today, we were up early and headed here.
As we crossed the state line,
I turned my watch back an hour.
Wow, two hours ahead in one day!
Double Dipping?
Loving it!
Evening on the front deck.
Warm inside!
